Here at Circle Safety & Health, we share in the sadness of John Meola passing away. He was a great man, whose affable nature and exceptional dedication to safety was noted throughout the community. In remembrance of him, we wish to share these kind words from our local chapter of ASSP.
From the American Society of Safety Professionals
Colonial Virginia Chapter
“Yesterday we were notified that a long tenured member of our Chapter, Giovanni “John” Meola passed away unexpectedly.
For those who knew John, we all immediately felt we had a friend for life. John made friends easily and made people feel comfortable. He loved to travel and loved to talk about it. He was a mentor to many. He liked to laugh and make people laugh. He loved good food, and he was proud of his Italian heritage. He loved his summer getaways to Martha’s Vineyard where his daughter lived some of the time.
Workplace Safety & Health was a passion not just because he was trained in it and practiced it for many years but because he passionately cared about keeping people out of harm’s way. John is known by many throughout the Commonwealth as a Teacher, Trainer, Safety Professional, Safety Author and man of many hats and interests.
He was an accomplished sculpture welder and artist and shared those talents with his fellow chapter members through his numerous Love Sculptures displayed throughout the Commonwealth including one on Driving Safety on display at the Virginia State Fairgrounds.
John was a champion of the Colonial VA Chapter serving as a long time officer with the Chapter in the roles of President, Treasurer, Secretary, etc. He gave so much and was the bedrock of our Chapter for many years. More than anything, John was a true friend to everyone.
We grieve John’s loss but know that the best way we can honor and pay tribute to all he has done for our Chapter & profession is to carry on using the guidance, wisdom, understanding and passion he left behind. Rest well John, we will take it from here….”
